Judge refuses to drop charge against daycare van driver

By staff reports

The former Delray Beach day care van driver whose forgotten 2-year-old passenger died in the August heat has been denied a request for her manslaughter charge to be dropped.

Amanda Inman, 32, of Boynton Beach, appeared in court on Tuesday. Her attorney, Anthony DeGraffenreidt, told Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Colbath that Inman should not face criminal charges in the death of Haile Brockington because she was new on the job at Katie’s Kids Learning Center and wasn’t trained to perform mandatory visual inspections of the van to make sure children exited the vehicle.

Haile’s body was found inside the parked van Aug. 5, strapped to the seat Inman had placed her in more than six hours earlier.
