DELRAY BEACH – Contestants are needed to participate in and volunteers are needed to help plan the upcoming ribs cook off competition to be held at Lake Ida Park on Dec. 3.
The entry fee for teams is $200, and includes a booth space for ribs cookers.
The event, called “We Kan Burn” Ribs cook off, will be open to the public.
The steering committee has been meeting at the Delray Beach Public Library on Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m., said event coordinator Regina Martin, of Rearcy’s Ribshack, one of the events’ presenting sponsors. The volunteers are been assigned tasks and responsibilities before the contest, she said.
Key tasks for volunteers will be registering cooks, handling bookkeeping duties and coordinating the car and bike show, Martin said. The committee also will be looking for additional sponsors, she added.
The event will also feature a car and a motorcycle show.
Cooking will begin at 9 a.m. and judging will begin at 2 p.m. Ribs will be available for tasting until 5 p.m. or until it runs out.
A grand prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the first place winner in the competition. A $100 gas card will be raffled off each hour.
Admission to the park is an unwrapped toy, which will be given to the Delray Beach Police holiday toys program.
