The deadline for 2012 African-American Achievers nominations is Dec. 9.
Nominees should be from Palm Beach, Broward or Miami-Dade counties and have a proven track record in enriching the quality of life in the South Florida community.
A panel of community leaders and past winners will select honorees.
In addition, The Jim Moran foundation is accepting nominations for an African-American high school senior who has been accepted to Florida State University and qualifies for financial aid. The winning student will be awarded the Jerome Edmund Gray Youth Achiever Award, a four-year FSU scholarship.
Awards will be given in the following categories: Arts and Culture, Business & Entrepreneurism, Community Service, and Education.
For each of the four 2012 African-American Achiever Award recipients JM Family, SET and JM Lexus will donate $10,000 to the charity of the winner’s choice. The companies will also donate $500 to the charity(ies) of choice for those whose nominee is selected as an African-American Achiever, for an additional total contribution of $2,000 to local nonprofits.
The 20th annual African-American Achievers Awards ceremony will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the Broward County Convention Center.
Past winners include Vera Rolle Farrington, Alfred “Zack” Straghan, Daisy Fulton, C. Ron Allen and Jerome Edmund Gray Youth Achiever recipient Alycia LaFavor.
