DELRAY BEACH – Thursday night’s exclusive VIP grand opening at Breathe restaurant was billed as an Arabian circus themed event of wonder and fantasy.
And that it was. In fact, Thursday’s event will go down in Delray Beach’s history books – not for the fanfare nor the record number of high end cars (Lamborghinis, Rolls Royces or Bentleys) but for the two camels that made a planned appearance.
“I can just bet the city leaders are going to have a conniption fit when they hear about this tomorrow,” a woman, who asked not to be identified, said. “Camels downtown on the street of this All-American City?”
Officials for the Mediterranean-fusion restaurant, lounge and nightclub applied for a permit to bring the camels in as part of the attraction but city officials disapproved the permit, a source close to the situation told the Tribune. They then proceeded with the attraction, vowing to deal with the effects after.
“Sometimes it’s easier to get forgiveness than to get permission,” the source continued.
Other attractions were a fire dancer, a belly dancer and two dwarfs, dressed as Arabian Knights on both sides of the entrance.
Located at 401 W. Atlantic Ave., just west of Swinton, Breathe is a “must” for diners looking to try a funky new twist on Mediterranean region fare in a chic, stylish and intimate atmosphere.
The eclectic decor, great food, sultry cocktails and plush lounge make it the perfect oasis for happy hour, dinner, parties and a sizzling late night crowd.
