DELRAY BEACH -Two robbery suspects are in custody after they led police on a chase from Boynton Beach to a home in the southwest section of the city Tuesday afternoon.
Members of the SWAT team surrounded a home near where the suspects bailed out at Southwest Eighth Avenue and Southwest First Street. Two Sheriff’s Office helicopters hovered and dozens of officers established a perimeter around the home.
In the end, several hours later, the men were arrested and charged. A third suspect remains at large, authorities said.
The incident occurred around the time of dismissal of area schools. Police held school buses at bay and diverted vehicular and pedestrian traffic from the four blocks surrounding the home.
Boynton Beach police say the incident stemmed from an alleged robbery in their city.
SWAT team members entered the home after there were reports that shots were fired from an assault rifle.
“Our officers came into contact with the vehicle and then saw an open door to a house and checked the house to make sure nobody was in there,” police spokeswoman Sgt. Nicole Guerriero said. “And there was no one in there.”
Police found at least one assault rifle.
