FCAT rally planned to boost students’ spirits

By Staff Reports

DELRAY BEACH — As students in the Palm Beach County school system prepare for the upcoming FCAT testing, a local community organization is holding a spirit rally on Saturday to encourage them to keep their spirits sky high.

The free rally is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. at the West Atlantic Avenue Public Plaza on the corner of West Atlantic and SW 5th avenues.

At least a half dozen experts on test taking, city leaders and school administrators are expected to spend two hours preparing the students mentally and emotionally to excel on the test, organizers said.

“There’s a lot of stress involved for students, teachers and administrators and parents surrounding these tests,” said Bobby Canatta, president of the Knights of Pythagoras Mentoring Network, which is organizing the event. “So anything we can do to demystify those fears will help. This is an attempt to calm their nerves before this dreaded test.”

The pep rally also will include FCAT cheers, snacks, refreshments and lots of giveaways, organizers said. At the end of the pep rally, drivers of antique cars and motorcycles will “rev” their engines to get the students “revved up” for FCAT.
