DELRAY BEACH – A 57-year-old Delray Beach man was struck and killed by a car early today while pushing his pickup truck west of the city, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s officials said.

The crash happened in the 13400 block of Jog Road shortly after midnight as Bobby Burns was pushing his 1999 Chevy in the center southbound lane, sheriff’s deputy Robert Stephan wrote in his report. The lights on Burns’ truck were not in use, deputies said.

A southbound Mitsubishi, driven by Alvara Abanto, also of Delray Beach slammed into Burns and crushed him, deputies said.

Burns was pronounced dead at the scene. Abanto, 30, was taken to Delray Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
