FAU authorities: Student robbed at gunpoint

By CRA News Service

A gunman robbed a student at Florida Atlantic University Thursday, forcing authorities to lockdown the campus for about three hours.

University officials say at about 1.10 p.m., the man placed a small handgun to the student’s head, took his possessions and ran off.  The robbery occurred at the Arts and Letters building, which is also known as Building 9.

Officials say buildings and parking lots were thoroughly searched, but the suspect wasn’t found. They also searched vehicles leaving the campus.

The Boca Raton campus of Palm Beach State College, which is adjacent to FAU, was also on lockdown following the incident. The lockdown was lifted at 3:57 p.m.

The suspect, who is described as a black male with a muscular build, was wearing white pants, white shirt as well as a ski mask as the time of the armed robbery.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Palm Beach Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS(8477).
