DELRAY BEACH – The National League of Cities will provide one-on-one technical assistance to Delray Beach to promote the city’s Campaign for Grade Level Reading.
Delray Beach was one of only a few local governments from across the country to receive this award, officials said.
Delray Beach was recognized as a strong leader by the NLC for its “Community Service Action Plan”, a program that is intended to achieve grade level reading for all local children by the third grade.
The NLC will provide support beginning in 2013 which will include technical assistance calls, E-mails and facilitation of peer exchanges to help the city implement strategies to improve local students’ reading proficiency.
The NLC will also assign a liaison to keep City officials informed of Reading Campaign news, events and available resources as well as initiate community-to-community networking in an effort to share best practices and learn about other programs’ successes.
