The robbery at the Community Market, 945 W. Atlantic Ave., was the second robbery in 12 hours. Two men, who police say match the same description, barged into another Community Market two blocks west and robbed it Saturday night. No one was injured in that robbery, which happened around 7:30 p.m.
Witnesses told police that shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday the men who covered their faces with bandanas, entered the store firing and demanded cash from the register. They also pistol whipped an employee as he opened the register, police said.
One of the victims died at the scene and the other was taken to Delray Medical Center’s Trauma Unit, where he later died. Police say they plan to release their names on Monday morning.
The robbers in both heists fled the stores with an undetermined amount of cash.
Both suspects are black. One is between 5-feet 6-inches to 5-feet 8-inches tall and thin build. He was wearing a dark jacket, a white T-shirt, long dark pants and a dark hat with a red bill. Witnesses said he was also wearing dark shoes with light-colored soles and a bandana on his face.
The second robber was slightly taller than the first suspect. He wore a light gray jacket and dark shorts that reached below his knees.
Both men are armed with semi-automatic handguns and should be considered dangerous, police said.
Anyone with information on these robberies is asked to contact Detective Joseph Hart at 561-243-6220, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS (8477).
