Olympic Heights Community High School students are building a beaded Holocaust Memorial Wall to acknowledge and recognize the victims of this tragedy.
The project, under the direction of literacy teacher Abbe Snyder, came to life as an initiative from Snyder, Michael Klein, Judith Cohn and many other teachers at the high school after reading We Remember the Children about the Child Survivors/Hidden Children of Palm Beach County.
“The research goes along with all of the benchmarks and when students realize what happened, there is a common empathy and grief for this senseless tragedy in human history,” said Maureen Carter, Holocaust Studies program planner.
Students are currently in process of collecting and researching names of those murdered during the Holocaust. The following Synagogues located around Palm Beach County are helping to fund this project:
- B’nai Torah Congregation, Boca Raton
- Congregation B’nai Israel-Boca
- Congregation Shirat Shalom, Boca
- Congregation Torah Ohr at Century Village, Boca
- Kol Ami of Boca Raton
- Temple Beth Shalom of Boca Raton
- Temple Sinai of Palm Beach, Delray Beach
This will be a permanent exhibit at Olympic Heights Community High School. A dedication ceremony will be organized during Yom Hashoah (Days of Remembrance) in April 2014
